Description
The first chapter gives the physical principle and processes in X-ray emission and the summary of the physical and atomic parameters already existing in literature. The second chapter summarizes the differences due to chemical effects seen in Ag and Cr compounds in X-ray emission by different modes of excitation (photons, protons and heavy ions) and the theoretical models to explain the differences as per literature. In chapter III a brief review is given of the experimental set up and methods for calibration and analysis procedures for X-ray emissions by photon and proton excitation. Chapter IV describes the sample preparation methods adapted and the data analysis, the various computer codes used and developed by us. Chapter V gives an overview of the conclusions made and the merits and demerits of X-ray emissions by photon (EDXRF) and proton (PIXE) excitation. Chapter VI gives the applications of XRF and PIXE in various fields in metallurgy, biosciences and life sciences carried out in our laboratory.
