Karl

Karl Pichelmann, an Austrian citizen borne 1956 in Vienna, worked for the European Commission for more than 20 years, holding the position of a Senior Adviser in the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs before his retirement in 2021. He is now the Chief Economist of the independent non-profit Bureau for ECFIN-Sight, The EU in the Global Economy He is also a Senior Research Associate with wiiw, The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, and an Associate at WIFO, The Austrian Institute of Economic Research. His research, analysis, and contributions to policy formulation focus on globalisation and European economic and monetary integration, patterns of convergence and divergence, and the evolution of labour markets and social models in Europe.
