Description

This book represents profound research of the origin of Ludwig Wittgenstein’s philosophical ideas. It shows the strong relationship between Wittgenstein though and the continental philosophical tradition. Author puts forward a thesis that Wittgenstein followed the line of continental philosophical tradition and has undergone a great influence of the ideas of his continental predecessors; moreover, later Wittgenstein’s concepts and views on the role of language show significant resemblances with ideas of some of his contemporaries. Hence, author argues that Wittgenstein’s philosophical thought was developing in the entire stream of the continental philosophical tradition. Furthermore, if early Wittgenstein’s ideas significantly influenced the development of analytic philosophy and logical analysis of language, his later ideas and concepts found an immediate response in the continental though in different areas of humanities. Author calls for a more extensive approach to Wittgenstein’s legacy, particularly, for the detailed investigation of his ideas on psychology, culture, music, ethics, and religion. In consideration of the fact that Wittgenstein’s writing style was not academic, he has not left any plain text, we have to find out his ideas on different philosophical topics throughout all his written notes, paying special attention to his diaries, correspondence with his friends and family, and lecture notes recorded by his pupils. The tremendous amount of important information that helps to clarify some embarrassing ideas of Wittgenstein’s philosophy is contained in the recollections of Wittgenstein’s friends, relatives, pupils, colleagues, and other acquaintances.
