Description

Wall Street! Wall Street! Wall Street! Can an economy like South Africa survive and grow without some smiles from the Wall Street trades? This book is aiming to explore and provide a well cemented answer to such an interesting question. Economic growth in South Africa has been subject to significant growth transition for the past several years. Arguments and questions do exist particularly in relation to economic growth experience in South Africa. Some of the burning questions are: 1. What are the key derivers of economic growth in South Africa 2. Which sector is key to the South African economy 3. What are the existing relationships between economic growth and sectorial development 4? Is there and equal consideration of economic sectors and sub-sectors by officials in South Africa? These questions do need truly structured answers. As such, this not so long book will address some of these questions. Our aim is not to leave anyone in suspense by providing more practical solutions. We consider the fund industry; mutual funds, pension funds and hedge funds. Our contribution comes in two main streams. We provide a cemented background, meaning and structure of each fund and lastly we provide some empirical studies of these funds and economic relations. The principles and results derived and presented in this book are universal. They can be transparently applied to any economy by anyone and at any time. Thus, we consider this book as relevant and one on the main reader’s waiting list.
