Description

This book cover data of diverse natural sesquiterpenoids isolated during the year 1995 to the beginning of 2015 along with their biological activities. Approximately 300 fungal species had been extensively studied, of which genus Penicillium, Aspergillus, Trichothecium, Botrytis and Lactarius were the main source of natural sesquiterpenoids. Approximately, 1167 natural sesquiterpenoids have been isolated from different fungal habitats. The major isolated sesquiterpenoids were of drimane, farnesane, and lactarane skeletons. Besides these, other dominant sesquiterpenoid skeletons were of trichothecane, eremophilane, eudesmane, cadinane, aristolane and aromadendrane class. This book also covers various pharmacological activities of fungi derived natural sesquiterpenoids in the treatment of diverse aliments. The predominant biological activities of natural sesquiterpenoids were cytotoxic, antimicrobial, antimalarial etc. Sesquiterpenoids isolated from other species including Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus ustus and Aspergillus versicolor were mostly found to be cytotoxic. The metabolites isolated from Penicillium sp. mostly have farnesane and drimane type skeletons. Phenylpyropene A and B isolated from Penicillium griseofulvum F1959 had been found to be acts as inhibitor of acyl-CoA: cholesterol acyltransferase. The metabolites isolated from Russula japonica, Tyromyces chioneus, Trichothecium roseum, Phlebia uda and Xylaria sp. mostly demonstrated neurite growth inhibitor, anti-cancer and anti-HIV activities. Chemical constituents isolated from Stachybot
