Description

This study examines how climate change mitigation technologies, such as agricultural land management and renewable energy production and consumption, influence climate change in SSA through greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. For this, an ARDL panel data model was used for the period 1991 to 2015. It uses data from 26 countries representative of the region's four sub-regions. The results show that renewable energy consumption is associated with a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. However, the use of agricultural land has a positive effect on greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, renewable energy production has no significant effect on greenhouse gas emissions. These results suggest that promoting renewable energy consumption could be a key strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the region. Policymakers should encourage policies and programs to increase the use of renewable energy while minimizing the impact of agricultural land on greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, these results can guide regulators in developing policies to counter climate change through the optimal use of climate mitigation technology.
