Description
β-carotene enhancing Or gene parental types were created in early and mid season Indian cauliflower for developing beta-carotene rich Indian cauliflowers for different regions and hybrid development. Improved October-November maturity beta-carotene lines in early maturing Pusa Meghna cauliflower background have been developed having desirable horticultural traits.
To facilitate affordable hybrid seed production of beta-carotene rich hybrids, diverse Eru sterile cytoplasm was introgressed into Indian cauliflower from Erucastrum canarianse via Brassica napus, and this was exploited in beta-carotene rich hybrid development. Also nutraceutical Recombinant Inbred lines were developed in tropical carrot for nutrceutical mapping.
Besides, Bt transgenics resistant to Diamond backmoth(Plutella xylostella) in cauliflower was accomplished by stacking two Cry 1b & 1c genes in heat tolerant Indian cauliflower Pusa Meghna.
