Description

The book presents a theme that is just as hard as it is relevant regarding conjugality. The data on intimate partner violence that is growing worldwide refers to physical violence; and, predominantly, men towards women. However, this scenario seems to be the tip of the iceberg of a profound and complex context since the violence that does not leave physical marks tends to go underreported. The difficulty in addressing the subject comes from the conceptual definition itself, which has shown to be unspecific or lacking the actual phenomenological dimension. Given its characteristics, psychological violence is difficult to be recognized by the involved partners, just as much as it is to professionals that act in care and attention services. From that, it is necessary to amplify the knowledge and the discussion of the theme; so that new coping and care strategies can be thought of and implemented. In this sense, this work seeks to favor the comprehension of the psychological violence theme in couple relationships, from its different expressions, and is based on the relational understanding of violence, in which the partners engage in a certain sense for the establishment to the marital scenario. Adding onto the theoretical part of the book, the presentation of clinical vignettes of cases attended at the conjugal psychological clinic over the course of more than two decades of work from the author as a psychologist and couple therapist.
