The first edition of the book was very concise covering four vital strands: Algebraic Structures, Vector Spaces, Metric Spaces and Topological Spaces. Many theorems were stated therein without their proofs. Chapters 2, 3 and 4 dealing with Abstract Algebra are now withdrawn to form a separate book. Rest of the contents of the previous version are retained in the current edition which consists of five chapters. The first one deals with basic concepts of Number System, while the next one retains the topics of ‘Set Theory’. Chapter 3 discusses Metric spaces in detail. Topological spaces, are dealt in Chapter 4. Proofs of various theorems stated in earlier edition are now supplemented. Tutorial Sheets, Tests and Examination Papers of various Universities, where the first author taught the subject are presented in the last chapter. At the end, a detailed Bibliography comprising of 16 text-books (including 6 by the first author) is given. Further, the Appendix 1 displays pictures of cover pages of some rare books & Stalwarts in the subject, while the Appendix 2 presents the additional Mathematical Texts, Research Monographs and other Academic Reports prepared/published by the first author; which do not directly deal with the present discussion. In the end, an Alphabetical Index of the topics and authors in the literature is also annexed for quick reference. The course may best suit graduate and postgraduate programmes of any University and can be covered in one semester with 3 weekly credit hours.
