Description

Africa is approaching the digital transformation of education from a singular position. It has the youngest population in the world, a demand for education that is growing faster than the capacity to meet it, and a generation that accesses the digital world mainly through the mobile phone. For the first time, it also has tools capable of distributing resources, training teachers remotely, tracking learning pathways and steering education systems on the basis of data. But it faces these possibilities under very real constraints: intermittent electricity, costly connectivity, fragile equipment, insufficiently supported teachers, con tent rarely adapted to national languages and curricula, and funding dominated by short-term projects. In this context, the question is no longer whether education should be digitised. It is how to transform education systems durably so that they help people learn better, include more learners and withstand crises without repeating the mistakes that have turned so many initiatives into inaugurations with no future.
