An idea of a Virtual University was put before the former Education Minister of the Govt. of Bougainville: Hon'ble Emmanuel-Carlos Kaetavara to establish a university there. Appreciating the idea, he made strenuous efforts at various Govt. agencies. The Dept. of Higher Education, Science & Technology of PNG Govt. advised him to come up with detailed Course Outlines of different Programmes of the Univ. Proposing the name of institution as Melanesian Virtual Univ. at Baba (his own Parliamentary Constituency in Bougainville), he requested me to prepare detailed Course Outlines for each Programme. I worked hard and prepared the detailed Course Outlines of 21 Graduate (Hons.) Courses for the core subjects of both Arts & Science streams and few job-oriented courses: Accountancy, B.Ed., Journalism, and Law. A solitary P-G Course for Maths. was also planned. Graduate and Master level courses specifically intended to raise students‘ sensitivity to, and involve- ment in, finding solutions for environment and development problems, are being designed. These courses aim to enhance capacities of students to understand the potential and the limits of the environment, and foster ethical awareness, values and attitudes, skills and behaviour needed for a sustainable utilization of human and natural resources.     The Book consists of 13 chapters, of which the first 2 present a short view of a Virtual. Univ. and plan for the generation of funds. The large document is presented in 2 Parts.: Vol. 1 details 11 courses of B.A. Hons. from Accountancy to Sociology arranged in alphabetical order, while the remaining ones are planned in next Volume. Duration of study for each Course is 4 years, i.e. 8 semesters and 4 courses are to be offered in every semester. The 1st year of study consists of Foundation Courses involving interdisciplinary courses. Language Course in English, Basic Courses on Computers, Maths. and Stats. in some Programs, Melanesian History, Academic Skills, are included. Abbreviations used in the text are stretched at the end.
