Prof. Dr. Kalia is a well known vegetable breeder the world over. He has 33 varieties of different vegetable crops to his credit with major contribution  in exotic vegetables, nutraceutical and resistance breeding, and genetic mechanisms facilitating hybrid breeding in cauliflower and carrot. He identified Xca1bo and Xca1bc genes, which impart resistance to black rot disease in cauliflower. Besides, he has introgressed beta-carotene enhancing Or gene in Indian cauliflower.
