Sumanto Al Qurtuby is an American-trained Indonesian cultural anthropologist. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Global Studies and an affiliate of the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Finance and Digital Economy, KFUPM Business School, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Saudi Arabia. He received fellowships from the University of Notre Dame, National University of Singapore, Kyoto University, and University of Oxford, among others. He obtained his PhD from Boston University and a master in conflict and peace studies from Eastern Mennonite University. Sumanto is the author of numerous academic articles and books, including Religious Violence and Conciliation in Indonesia (2016), Saudi Arabia and Indonesian Networks (2019), and Terrorism and Counter-terrorism in Saudi Arabia and Indonesia (2022).
