Dr. Janusz Wiesław Błaszczyk graduated from the Faculty of Electronics at the Warsaw University of Technology. He is a professor of Neurophysiology and Biomechanics and in the area of his interests, he has published over 120 scientific articles in prestigious scientific journals. His research focuses in particular on the aging process of the brain. In addition, he was interested in the problems of the art of Orthodox icons, in particular crosses and metal icons produced by the Old Believers. The result of these interests is the monograph Old Believers Crosses and Metal Icons published in 2014, the English version of which we present to readers. The book, apart from a concise outline of the history of the schism in the Russian Orthodox Church, presents the history of the metal icon, its typology, and systematics. The book is aimed at both professionals and art lovers.
