Humanities in the Twenty-First Century: The Meaning and Relevance of Medieval and Modern Literature
$ 79.5
Description
The entire field of the Humanities finds itself under heavy attack at the present moment (2022). But this is not a completely modern phenomenon. Instead, society has always tended to question the value of the academic study of literature, the arts, music, philosophy, or religion. Worse, all humanist fields engaged with pre-modern topics face even more challenges because the relevant texts or objects are hard to read and often require additional language training. In a series of articles published over the last few years in a variety of online journals, I have reflected deeply on the question of how to explain in practical and theoretical terms the timeless relevance of literature, especially from a medieval and early modern perspective.
