Description
Climate change urgency requires a swift transition to a low carbon society which implies broad-scale transformations at all levels, hence the imperative of an energy transition based on enhancing energy efficiency and renewable energy. Energy efficiency is pivotal to combat climate change, it is the most affordable and readily accessible resource, and the most profitable path to sustainability. Manufacturing companies are increasingly adopting energy efficiency practices as they become more knowledgeable about the central role energy efficiency plays in their companies’ competitiveness and the planet’s sustainability. In Morocco, since the adoption of the National Energy Strategy in 2009, numerous manufacturing companies are facing enormous challenges to implement energy efficiency practices which is explained by the existence of energy efficiency barriers. Based on survey data collected from 193 manufacturing companies in Morocco, our study aims to determine factors reducing the intensity of behavioral barriers to energy efficiency within the Moroccan manufacturing sector. In the first chapter, we identify from the literature, key behavioral barriers to energy efficiency. In the second chapter, we empirically determine the importance of institutional pressure and dynamic capabilities in promoting energy efficiency within the Moroccan manufacturing sector.
