Description

The UN General Assembly Open Working Group proposed a paper with 17 SDGs in July 2014, and it was accepted by the General Assembly in September 2015.  The study analyzes the primary role of global agriculture and global institutions in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goals and its wide spread benefits to people and the planet. The results show that agriculture is the industry that ties the 17 SDGs together more than any other sector. In addition to addressing hunger and malnutrition, the agricultural sector helps in reduction of poverty, excessive water, energy usage, climate change, unsustainable production and consumption and employment. Food and agriculture serve as the primary link between people and planet, can assist in achieving a number of SDGs. Sustainable food and agriculture have the ability to transform rural areas, promote equitable growth and advance the 2030 Agenda.  Global Agricultural Productivity Index shows  food production is not increasing quickly enough to sustainably feed the world in 2050. UN Food Systems Summit analysis show that not only do sustainable food systems contribute to the end of hunger, and assist the world in making significant advancements toward all 17 SDG’s. FAO acts as custodian of almost 10 percent of the 232 components of the SDG indicator framework. FAO, WFP, IFAD contribute a lot to global agriculture to achieve SDGs. World Bank contributes to progress of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for climate action, poverty, and eradication of hunger. IMF: financial support for low-income  countries. WTO contribution to SDG2, Zero Hunger.
