Hand Hygiene has proven to be the leading measure to prevent the cross-transmission of microorganisms. However, hand hygiene compliance among healthcare workers has been very low in Rwanda with average compliance of lower than 40%; There was no nationwide data related to hand hygiene compliance in Rwanda except for a few studies in different institutions on quality improvement. Knowledge was assessed using the WHO Hand Hygiene questionnaire. Observations of doctors and nurses were done where opportunities and practices were recorded using the WHO five moments of hand hygiene form. Supplies and facilities for hand hygiene were also checked daily. The findings of this study showed that most healthcare workers had good knowledge of hand hygiene.
